September/October 2024 Philanthropy Update

Blood recipients, Kamila and Ella wave in gratitude, at the Padres Summer Blood Drive (2019). Thanks to generous blood and financial donors, today they are thriving.

Dear Friend,

We invite you and a guest to Connect to Life on Thursday, September 26th at 5:30 p.m. The community event provides us with the opportunity to educate and inform our supporters about San Diego Blood Bank’s current initiatives. Make your reservation below and enjoy an evening with the SDBB team, guest speakers, and other esteemed supporters. Click on the invitation below to RSVP.

I am happy to share that through the support of our generous financial donors, we have successfully completed our $20,000 matching challenge from the John P. Martin Foundation, long-time donor John Howard, and an anonymous donor!

A new match from long-time supporter Rebecca Blakely Bashforth and an anonymous donor has now been unlocked. Your gift of any amount will truly make a difference and help us reach our next goal to match $5,000 by September 30th!

Please consider making your meaningful contribution today and it will be matched dollar-for-dollar— amplifying the impact of your gift. Support for the Drive to Save Lives campaign will enable us to secure a new bloodmobile to collect lifesaving blood throughout Southern California.

Please enjoy our September/October 2024 Philanthropy Update and we thank you in advance for supporting our mission!

With gratitude,

national blood cancer awareness month

September is recognized as National Blood Cancer Awareness month. This month-long campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about various blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. According to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, blood cancer is a group of more than 100 cancers that often begin in the bone marrow can affect blood cells, lymph nodes, and other parts of the lymphatic system. During the month of September it is a crucial time for raising public awareness and advocating for better resources and care for patients and their loved ones.

Here are ways on how to get involved and support Blood Cancer Awareness month:

  1. Educate yourself about the different types of blood cancers, their symptoms, and treatment options. Share this knowledge with other to raise awareness.

  2. Consider making an impact, by donating to organizations that fund blood cancer research or provide resources to patients and their families.

  3. Host a peer-to-peer fundraising event to raise money and awareness for blood cancer research.

  4. Donate blood or volunteer at your local blood bank to meet patients who have been affected by blood cancer.
