Our 10 donation locations throughout San Diego County make blood donation accessible to diverse communities, enabling SDBB to diversify our blood supply to provide better blood matches for patients and help further our research on blood genotyping.
Through community blood drives, our bloodmobiles help collect approximately 50% of our annual blood supply. Community partners such as the County of San Diego, the Padres, Comic-Con and dozens of churches, schools, and organizations throughout San Diego help SDBB meet the needs of our hospital partners. With a focus on safety and quality, our blood services not only meet immediate medical needs, but also empower community health and wellness.
The commitment of SDBB’s financial donors is vital to our blood collection capabilities, but also reflects their deep care for our community. Generous annual and monthly financial donors support our greatest needs for blood collection resources, helping us save lives every day.
“All too often, we take our blood supply for granted and just assume it will be there when you need it. To ensure a robust blood supply of red cells, platelets, and plasma, I strongly recommend you make a commitment to become a blood donor, financial supporter or volunteer with the San Diego Blood Bank. You will meet an enthusiastic staff who will assist you in making miracles happen every day. Every blood donation day is a great day.”
